What is Stromectol?
Stromectol (ivermectin) is a medication that can be used to treat certain parasitic infections. It works by killing the parasites.

More serious side effects may include:
- vision problems
- muscle weakness
- tingling or numbness in the hands or feet
- seizures
- fast or irregular heartbeat
- hoarseness
- swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
- trouble breathing or swallowing
- hives
If you experience any of the above serious side effects, you should seek medical attention immediately.
Stromectol may also cause other less common side effects. You should report any unusual side effects to your doctor.
Before taking Stromectol
You should not take Stromectol if you are allergic to ivermectin or any other ingredients in the medication.
You should also avoid taking Stromectol if you have:
- a history of allergic reactions to other medications
- a history of asthma
- a history of eczema
- a history of hay fever
- a history of hives
- a history of swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
If you have any of the above conditions, you may be at risk for a more severe allergic reaction to Stromectol.
Before taking Stromectol, you should tell your doctor if you have any of the following conditions:
- kidney disease
- liver disease
- a stomach or intestinal disorder
- an autoimmune disorder
- a history of seizures

How should I take Stromectol?
Stromectol is usually taken as a single dose.
You should take Stromectol with a full glass of water.
You should take Stromectol on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.
If you are taking Stromectol to treat river blindness, you will usually take it once a week for at least 3 months.
If you are taking Stromectol to treat strongyloidiasis, you will usually take it as a single dose.
To ensure that you get a correct dose, measure the liquid form of Stromectol with a special dose-measuring spoon or cup, not a regular table spoon. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.
Your doctor may start you on a low dose of Stromectol and gradually increase your dose.
Stromectol is usually given for 5 days.
Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Stromectol exactly as directed.
Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
If you are taking Stromectol to treat river blindness, your doctor may want you to take it for several months.
To be sure Stromectol is helping your condition and not causing harmful effects, your doctor will need to check your progress on a regular basis.
Do not miss any follow-up visits to your doctor.
If you are taking Stromectol to treat strongyloidiasis, you may need to take a second dose 3 to 6 weeks after your first dose.
To be sure this medication is not causing harmful effects, your blood may need to be tested often. Your liver function may also need to be tested.
Visit your doctor regularly.
If you are taking Stromectol to treat river blindness, you will need to have regular eye exams.
Store Stromectol at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light.
